From his nasally vocals to his cherry-red hair, Atlanta’s Lil Yachty is a character to say the least. The self-professed “King of Teens” unique take on hip-hop has made him a polarizing figure in music. The youth love him, but older fans mourn his rise as the “death of hip-hop.” However you feel about him, it is hard to deny his infectiousness. A memorable contribution to Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book and a summer banger with D.R.A.M in “Broccoli” have kept him relevant since his initial rise to stardom. This momentum continued with “The Boat Show,” a cross-country tour with his Sailing Team that made a stop at Cat’s Cradle. The colorful gang of artists brought wild energy for the kids.
The show was high-octane from the jump as the Sailing Team opened for Yachty. Performances from acts like Kodie Shane and Byou kept the crowd hype while introducing themselves to fans who may have been unfamiliar with the squad. After their introductions, Yachty came out to deafening cheers and that’s when things really picked up. He was a rock star, leading sing-alongs, throwing water and diving off the stage (and a balcony). A moshpit to “Minnesota” and a crowd-led lightshow for his smash hit “1Night” made for an extraordinary night. Fans may have ended up drenched in sweat and Dasani, but the King of the Teens left his kingdom more than satisfied.
