all glory be to God–
the sunrise, the stretch of the highway, the flowers atop my desk, the graveyard shift, the deep end of the pool, my favorite color. glory. glory. glory.
for jazz and the hum of the engine, for dissonance, and prayer, and the food which i will eat tonight, for the bed where i will sleep. the long road, ameen, the car which will take me home safely, the child sleeping against the window, the overhead light, the busted radio.
the truck driver, the off-duty nurse, the poet, the teacher, the janitor. the least of these. glory. glory. glory.
may it be with you from dawn to dusk. by the morning prayers, the sunrise, the mangoes and the hibiscus, the avocado tree and the sorrel. all glory be to God for the line cook, for my grandmother’s hands, for the fish fry, for polaroids, for green grass, for pomegranates and warm coffee.
glory. may you believe for the entire stretch of the road. may you say glory long before it ends.
