The Tar Heels fell to Duke (32-25) on Saturday, Nov. 22, at Kenan Memorial Stadium in their last home game of the season. UNC put up a commendable fight during the second and third quarters, but Bill Belichick’s team will likely lose bowl eligibility for the postseason. In an understatement, this has been a roller coaster of a season.

Back in December 2024 it was announced that Belichick would officially be the head coach for UNC football. With six Super Bowl wins as the head coach of the New England Patriots, the most in NFL history, expectations were high for the coming season. Now, coming off the heels of a 4-7 losing season one thing remains true: this is only the first season down. From here, the Tar Heels can drive forward and learn from their previous season, making the necessary adjustments to convert and return stronger.

UNC quarterback, Gio Lopez, exits the field seemingly disheartened after losing to Duke (32-25) on Saturday, Nov. 22.

When first brought on as head coach, students, alumni, and fans all had their individual feelings. Some optimistic and some skeptical, but all wanting to win. With only one game left in the season, the goal on the field for the Tar Heels is to beat our little bro NC State and complete a catch of the last win of the season.

UPDATE: The Tar Heels fell to the Wolfpack (42-19) on Nov. 29. The loss closes the door on a terrible season for Belichick and Carolina.
