Black Twitter is a collection of hashtags, memes, and trending topics that are comically and emotionally centered around Black reality and interest. It is the documented proof of an unmatched culture, home to an unfiltered community of comedians and activists.
Black Twitter is a voice. As much as it is used for its comedy, it is also resilient in its effort to expose various social issues. It is a force that cannot be marginalized by outsiders. It sparks movements like #BlackLivesMatter and commits itself to drawing the attention necessary to create change.
Black Twitter is timely. Moments after the Yahoo Finance typo, #NiggerNavy was already trending with spot-on reasoning as to why a #NiggerNavy would not actually exist. Within minutes of the announcement that Beyoncé would be giving birth to twins, Black Twitter exploded with memes and gifs.
Black Twitter is the highlight reel for entertainment. If you ever miss any awards show or television series, Black Twitter is there to highlight the most notable segments in the most comedic fashion.
Black Twitter is woke. The Patriots may have won the Super Bowl, but the Falcons won the popular vote. Sound familiar?
Black Twitter is timeless. It never gets old.
Black Twitter is home. Regardless of background, class, status, or circumstance, one could argue that any black person in America can relate to some topic on Black Twitter. It is unique in its wit, humor, and realness. It is live entertainment, and its power to draw so much attention in so little time makes it a force to be reckoned with. Black Twitter is part of this generation’s mark on history.
